Schools in Humboldt County are implementing a phased process to expand Transitional Kindergarten (TK). All four-year-olds will be eligible for TK by the 2025-2026 school year. The matrix below is a general outline to help determine whether your child qualifies.
Some districts will be expanding eligibility beyond the dates below. Be sure to check with your District of Residence.

2023-2024
TK Enrollment
If the child turns five between Sept. 2 and April 2, then they are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten.
Kindergarten Enrollment
If the child turns five on or before Sept. 1 then they are eligible for kindergarten.
School Year
2024-2025
TK Enrollment
If the child turns five between Sept. 2 and June 2, then they are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten.
Kindergarten Enrollment
If the child turns five on or before Sept. 1 then they are eligible for kindergarten.

If the three year old child’s fourth birthday occurs before Sept. 2nd, then they are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten.

If the child turns five on or before Sept. 1 then they are eligible for kindergarten.
