HCOE Environmental Education Guide
The Humboldt County Guide to Environmental Education (EE Guide for short) was developed by the Redwood Community Action Agency (RCAA) and the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) in order to provide a one-stop, online resource for educators in Humboldt County looking for environmental programming to supplement, expand and/or enhance their curriculum.
Steelhead in the Classroom
Through a classroom experience of hatching fish eggs and coordinated activities, students experience first-hand the value of aquatic environments, the balance that must be met to maintain and preserve California’s fisheries and aquatic habitats, and how their personal actions affect these valuable resources.
Environmental Literacy Teacher Resources
Through a CDE grant project increasing educator capacity to nurture environmental literacy for Humboldt County students, we have created a page of resources for teachers to use in their curriculum.
Redwood Environmental Education Fair (REEF)
The Redwood Environmental Education Fair (REEF) is an annual event that invites local 3rd-8th grade teachers and their students to attend interactive workshops, lectures, video presentations, games, and other learning experiences that encompass a wide variety of environmental topics.
Please note: REEF will not be taking place in 2022. We look forward to an Environmental Literacy event next Spring.
Field Trip Opportunities
In partnership with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, grant money is often available to help facilitate student field trips to the North Coast’s iconic state parks.
