On April 6th, Hoopa Valley High School students had a busy day learning all about different career opportunities in trades ranging from building supply, metal fabrication, and construction.  They visited The Mill Yard, McCullough Construction, and O&M Industries.  It was inspiring for the students to learn that The Mill Yard (Tanka Chase) and McCullough Construction (Macky McCullough) are owned by Hoopa Valley High School alumni.  The students also heard from John Barber of O&M Industries, also a Hoopa Valley High alumni, about how he became a metal fabricator. Earlier last month, a team from Recology visited Eureka High’s Automotive Technology classes.  The presenters included the Operations Manger, Maintenance Manager, and two Mechanics.  The Recology staff shared information on the job opportunities and benefits at Recology, the importance of learning in their automotive technology classes, and the need for new technicians getting into the trade. Recology brought and street sweeper and a service truck for the students to tour. The presentation also included diesel engine computer diagnostics performed in front of everyone, and the vehicle inspection process.  Many of the students got the chance to speak one on one with the presenters and get their questions answered.
