High School students interested in learning more about health careers can now apply to be part of upcoming Health Career Seminars (HCS) through the Humboldt County Office of Education’s Health Careers Exploration Project (HCEP).
HCEP is a comprehensive program that allows Humboldt County high school students to investigate their interest in healthcare, learn more about medical topics, and interact with a variety of healthcare professionals. Students also get training in CPR/AED and first aid, vital sign measurements, medical terminology and career success skills.
Health Career Seminars are entry-level, two-week workshops that provide opportunities for Humboldt County high school students (9-12 grades) to be exposed to different health career options while learning basic skills in healthcare and professionalism.
Students will also have ten hours of observation on location at different healthcare facilities locally. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in health careers to network and talk with other healthcare workers about their professions.
The primary goals of HCS are for students to:
- Explore a variety of health careers and local opportunities
- Build professional skills you can use anywhere
- Learn basic healthcare skills
- Talk with current healthcare professionals
- Experience a variety of healthcare settings and facilities
There will be sessions at three local high schools – Eureka High, Fortuna High, and McKinleyville High. All sessions are open to all Humboldt County students, and the content is the same. The only difference are the locations and dates.
