(Eureka)—Chris Cox, music teacher at Eureka City Schools was chosen as the 2022 North Coast Music Education Association (NCMEA) Educator of the Year. Mr. Cox was named at the 65th Annual All County Music Festival that was live-streamed Saturday, March 12 at Arcata High School.
Mr. Cox currently the Director of the Jazz Ensemble at Eureka High School and teaches general music and beginning band at 4 elementary schools within Eureka City Schools. He also is a trumpet instructor at Cal Poly Humboldt and participates in various music ensembles around Humboldt County.
When asked for a comment after receiving the award, Mr. Cox said, “I feel very fortunate to be able to work with young musicians every day. Being recognized for the work I do as a music educator is humbling, especially when it comes from my friends and colleagues in the music community.”
He earned his Bachelors of Arts in Music Education from California State University, Fresno in 1990. He went on to earn his Masters of Music Performance on trumpet from Ithica College, Ithica, New York in 1993
