(Eureka)—The California Department of Education (CDE) has released data by way of the 2022 California School Dashboard. The California School Dashboard goes beyond test scores alone to provide a more complete picture of how schools and districts are meeting the needs of all students.

For the past two school years, California accountability requirements were waived or adjusted due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students and the education community. Unlike in prior years, the 2022 Dashboard will not display the difference from prior year (also known as Change) or performance level colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue). Results fall into one of five Status levels, ranging from “Very High” to “Very Low.”

Dr. Colby Smart, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services at the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) notes that improving outcomes for all students remains a priority for all districts, charter schools and HCOE. “We have launched a countywide effort to build and improve reading instruction.  Classroom teachers, reading and intervention teachers, and instructional coaches help reinforce an ongoing commitment for improving student outcomes in the areas of academic performance, as well as social-emotional needs in our community.”

The 2022 Dashboard release is an opportunity to identify areas in need of improvement and engage in ongoing discussions with LEAs; with recognized areas of improvement already underway.
