(Eureka)— The Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE), St. Bernard’s Academy (SBA) and 44 participating businesses and service agencies presented a Career & Education Fair, Thursday May 19th at St. Bernard’s Academy in Eureka. The event was held for local high school students interested in exploring careers with the guidance of community leaders who attended the Fair.
The event was sponsored by The Eureka Chamber of Commerce, College of the Redwoods, Cal Poly Humboldt and the Rotary Club of Old Town Eureka. Representatives from the partner organizations and businesses were on hand to describe aspects of their jobs and propose pathway guidance for students to pursue careers. This event was the first of its kind to be held locally after the pandemic. This event will be held each year to connect students with career pathways of their choice.
Jim Ritter, HCOE’s project coordinator, said, “This event brought together 44 business, education, government, and nonprofit organizations to help Humboldt County high school students explore career ideas, apply for summer jobs, and learn about education, volunteer, and job opportunities.” Ritter stated, “There was a nicely received hospitality table for the community volunteers, offered by Eureka High School culinary and Los Bagels. We appreciate how many organizations and people in our community worked so hard to make this fair a valuable community event in support of Humboldt County students.”
