South Fork High School students recently had the opportunity to explore careers in heavy equipment at Peterson Caterpillar in Fortuna. Bart Mace and Nic Hansen led the tour, and did a fantastic job of informing the students of the many possibilities of employment at Peterson Caterpillar. The tour began with Bart and Nic telling the students of how they began their careers at Peterson. The students then toured the parts and service department, and then the shop where the group got to observe Caterpillar equipment being overhauled. The tour then wrapped up outside where everyone got to see the new equipment and the amazing new technology for operating new Caterpillars, and every student received a Caterpillar hat!

The students also received great information about what the company looks for when hiring and training; how the divisions of the business operates, and the internships and many job opportunities within the company.

We’re excited about the potential of the Trades Academy to grow and give more local students the opportunity to connect with trades industry craftsman and businesses.  The Trades Academy is a key initiative in the Education At Work effort to bridge what students learn in their classrooms to their career or higher education success.  Education At Work is working hard to include many community partners from business, government, nonprofit industry sectors, CR, HSU, and local schools.  Thank you Peterson Caterpillar for being our Education At Work partner and thank you again Bart Mace and Nic Hansen for an amazing day supporting these South Fork High School students.
