North Coast Cal-SOAP (Student Opportunity and Access Program) of the Humboldt County Office of Education is pleased to announce an exciting and important local educational event for all high school students and parents.
The 37th Annual North Coast College & Career Expo is Thursday, September 24th, 5:30-8:00 PM and will be virtual this year. Since college and university representatives don’t have to travel, there will be more UCs and CSUs than ever before represented. This year’s virtual event also welcomes more private and out-of-state colleges that are new to the Expo. To see the full list of recruiters visit https://hcoe.org/college-expo/.
The College & Career Expo is designed for 9th-12th grade students and parents who want to learn more about preparing for and applying to colleges, universities, and trade schools, vocational and career pathways, and how to pay for higher education with eight workshops to choose from.
This year more than 60 public and private college, university and trade school recruiters will be tabling at the Expo on Zoom to provide information and to answer specific questions regarding admission requirements, tuition, housing, academic options, and campus life.
This event is the only college fair in Humboldt County and provides an opportunity for families to compare different educational options in a virtual one-stop-shop.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) begins on October 1, so seniors should plan to attend the financial aid workshops to understand the necessary steps in order to obtain priority funding. There will also be an FSA ID workshop to help seniors and parent get their electronic access code to esign their FAFSA.
The goal of this event is to promote a community wide college-going culture. The College & Career Expo aims to increase our local students’ knowledge of options for their futures and provide relevant information to help answer questions related to post-secondary education.
The College and Career Expo is a fast-paced, jam-packed event, and promises to deliver more information this year due to the virtual nature of it. Visit the event website for information on how to prepare for the event in order to get the most out of it.
