Jacoby Creek Recognized as 2017 National Blue Ribbon School

Jacoby Creek Elementary School in Arcata been selected as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.  The National Blue Ribbon School Award honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

“I am thrilled, humbled, and proud to be in the position of Superintendent of our school district at this momentous time,” stated Tim Parisi, Jacoby Creek Superintendent. “This is indeed a high honor. However, the responsibility for this award lies with the students, staff, principal, school board and community of our school. This recognition of their efforts is richly deserved.”

The California winners are among 342 schools announced by the U.S. Department of Education. In its 35-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has presented this award to more than 8,500 schools.

Public schools are nominated by top education officials in each state, the Department of Defense Education Activity and the Bureau of Indian Education. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

Jacoby Creek exemplifies the great things happening in education and we are thrilled that they have been recognized for this award which demonstrates their overall academic excellence and support of student achievement.”
